WATCH THIS: Snack Guys & BITE THE POWER.
Watch the videos I uploaded to the Black Food Fridays YouTube account, today!
Today won’t be a long post because I’m currently living my best life in Florence, SC for their annual wine and food festival. But I didn’t want to leave y’all with NOTHING! Especially since the something I want to share doesn’t even require reading!
I’ve been saying that creating strictly for Instagram was becoming a boring chore (that and it doesn’t pay all that well) and that YouTube would be the next frontier for me. Consider today to be the day I dip my toe in that proverbial pool. I uploaded four videos to the Black Food Fridays YouTube channel and I would love for you to watch them all, when you get a moment. Oh, and subscribe to the channel if you haven’t already. First up: SNACK GUYS (we’re working on the name)!
SNACK GUYS
You know how, with kids, even if you repeat the same thing to them over and over (like, to put on deodorant before they leave the house) they magically seem to forget. But if you off-handedly mention something that they have an interest in—like buying a PS4 or letting them star in a YouTube video—they never seem to forget and will remind you every chance they get? Well, that’s how this started.
I was babysitting my 7 year old nephew and his friend earlier this week, and the whole YouTube thing came up (again). So I said “Sure,” because I had some new audio recording equipment I wanted to try, anyway. To my surprise, the initial video came out well. So I took a day to edit it and SNACK GUYS was born! Now, I’m not gonna promise you “NEW SNACK GUY VIDEOS EVERY WEEK” because 1) they are 7 years old and their interest could change in a month and 2) I’ll only do this if it’s fun to them. But if you watch the video, and like the video, make sure you leave a comment so I can show them!
BITE THE POWER…FINALLY!
My first BITE THE POWER videos were created last year but…I never got them. Long story. But, undeterred, I partnered with Charleston Wine + Food Festival to bring it back AND add a food component. I’ve posted about this dinner numerous times on the BFF IG account but today, I am happy to share all three presentations from this year’s event. The video above features Michael Nicholas, co-founder of the plant-based cafe and concept store, Aunts Et Uncles.
Next is the motivating presentation from Philly-based farmer, educator, entrepreneur, and James Beard Award winner Christa Barfield. She runs Farmer Jawn (get it?), a 128-acre working farm, building a model that enables regenerative organic food production by and for underserved communities.
And last, but certainly not least, is Bartholomew Jones. This former educator and forever MC, is the founder of Cxffeeblack and the Anti-Gentrification Coffee Club, both in Memphis, Tennessee. Among their many notable exploits include operating the only all-Black coffee supply chain in the world.
Please, please, take a look at all three of these POWERFUL presentations! And if you’re interested in attending a future event, drop a comment and let me know.
Before I go, I just want to give a shout out to everyone who joined the first TASTE BUDS online hang session last week! Paid subscribers to the newsletter will be able to hop online with me as I give updates on the growth of the account and (like in this screenshot above) give them exclusive access to ideas I’m working on in the future! If you want to invest in the brand and want to have input on future programming, upgrade your subscription today!
Enjoy your weekend and find a Black owned food and/or beverage business to support today!
